Why Manuscripts ?!
A new hire’s cursor floats over one box in my consumption type. First united state week. Goal for today’s standup: “Audio positive without oversharing.” That solitary sentence is why I quit writing lengthy modules and began creating manuscripts. In the initial 90 days, students do not require a book; they need the ideal words for the following two mins of their actual day. My assistant, silent, no-code, AI-supported, listens to context, protects the individual’s voice, and uses a couple of lines they can actually say aloud.
More powerful Conferences With A Script Engine
The Library
I began with a simple Google Sheet: 3 tabs, situations, rubbing points, and obstructs. Circumstances are the conferences all of us acknowledge. Rubbing factors are the behaviors that trip individuals up: verbosity vs. brevity, decision-framing, evidence-in-one-breath, timeboxing, and kind directness. Blocks are tiny, reusable lines labelled by type (opener, ask, if-pushed, better) and tone (concise, warm, official). No code. Simply framework and language.
The Tiny Chart
I maintain one small chart motivated by Erin Meyer’s The Society Map — 8 dimensions on a 1– 7 range, kept in the exact same sheet. For a learner, I gently note “home” tendencies alongside the assumptions of the context they’re getting in. It’s a compass, not a decision. When voids surge, claim on directness or responses style, the aide nudges the manuscript: a tighter opener for execs, a clearer request cross-functional phone calls, a warmer frame for delicate comments.
Consumption
We maintain the consumption short. Role. The scene they’re about to get in. Who’s in the room and what those individuals worth. The end result they desire– decision, info, or partnership. Just how much time do they absolutely have: thirty, sixty, ninety seconds? And how they like to sound. If they claim “positive yet not protective,” I maintain that expression on my shoulder while we function.
Assembly
The engine does light pattern-matching. Client status with directors? Highlight brevity, decision-framing, and evidence. Peer comments? Kind directness and a quick why. The assistant puts together a short script from the collection– never ever to overwrite the person’s voice, just to develop it.
In The Space
That engineering manager who was afraid oversharing prepared to describe the entire sprint. Contractors like backstory; target markets require headlines. The manuscript we created maintained it tight: “High-level: we’re on track for October 10 One danger is latency in the beta; mitigations in A/B examination currently.” The ask complied with naturally: “To hold October 10, we need a yes/no on expanding the beta by the end of the day.” If pressed: “2 solutions in test; I’ll share the champion on Thursday.” The closer handed possession and following steps without sounding sudden. No theory dump. Simply a clear course via the scene, silently informed by that little graph reminding us to lead with results, not phases.
After The Call
Every manuscript ships with a micro-experiment and a representation. The experiment is tiny on purpose: lead with the outcome first in 2 conferences today; maintain the opener under thirty-five secs; make the ask time-bound. The representation takes a min: What did you cut that no one missed? What made the area lean in? Those notes feed the library. Gradually, obstructs hone into wording that travels well throughout teams.
Since this resides in a spread sheet, version is pain-free. If a line alters too official, I rewrite it. If a better sings with customers however flops with peers, I retag it. The assistant finds out, and so do I. Edit distance– how much a student transforms the script– becomes a proxy for confidence. When it goes down, we’re closer to their authentic noise.
What I View
I track signals with a pulse: time to very first positive conference; decision speed (clear ask, owner, day); supervisor signal at 30/ 60/ 90; manuscripts produced vs. manuscripts utilized. No heavy dashboard required– just an once a week look to see if the tale is moving.
The “AI” is a customized chatbot connected to the sheet. Consumption moves through a basic type. The draft gets here where people currently live, Slack or Teams, not a buried LMS tab. Privacy is rigorous: minimal context, student edits, no raw records. The assistant recommends; the learner disposes.
I invest much less time describing exactly how to interact and even more time handing individuals words that work. The knowing is adaptive, not because a dashboard claims so, yet because every scene writes the next. New employs ramp quicker. Companions listen to quality quicker. The scripts get better with each small edit.
The Line I Keep
A manager, French, very first month in Boston, wrote after a challenging week: “It didn’t make me sound American. It made me seem like myself, however in a manner people below hear.” That rests next to “appear certain without oversharing” in my scrapbook. Customization isn’t about altering somebody’s voice; it has to do with providing it the shape to lug. The Meyer-inspired chart helps me area which levers matter; the script makes those levers functional in the room.
Begin Tiny, Upskill Rapid, Stay Confident!
Five typical scenes. A handful of friction factors. A loads blocks you’re honored to state aloud. Add the easiest Culture-Map graph you can draw, eight sliders in a sheet, and utilize it as a compass, not a rulebook. Ship to one team. See what they alter. Fold their edits back in. One morning, you’ll open up the spreadsheet and recognize you’re not keeping “content” any longer, you’re guiding a living tale. And each time the 8: 57 a.m. cursor blinks, you’ll recognize exactly just how to get your protagonist via the following scene.
